Are Properties Getting Smaller?

November 17, 2014

Recently there was an item on a well-known news website that highlighted a property being sold in London. That in itself might not sound unusual, but when you realise the house was a mere seven feet wide you’ll see why it made headlines.

It was originally built on what used to be a driveway, and while it is small it was still set to go up for auction this October. Almost unbelievably the starting price was just shy of a quarter of a million pounds!

This is by no means that unusual either. There are plenty of properties all over the country that have been built to be tiny for one reason or another. Normally they’re slotted in between other houses and have been built there in the hope of making some money off the land. The property mentioned here was originally built by an entrepreneur. He must have made a fortune on it by selling it to the man who subsequently did it up to put it up for auction last month.

Clearly, these are rather unusual properties when compared to many others across the UK. But even so, some houses do seem to be smaller than they used to be. You never seem to get big rooms with high ceilings anymore for example.

In any event, plenty of people eventually find they have too many possessions to fit into their small homes. And that’s when they turn to companies like ours, to branch out into a bit more space without having to move. It makes good sense when you think about it doesn’t it?

There is a lot to be said for decluttering of course but you can only go so far with that. After that’s done the next best thing if you want to keep your possessions is to opt for some handy self-storage with us.
