This year Slazenger has supplied 52,200 tennis balls for use at Wimbledon and that each one has been individually hand-tested for their bounce, weight, and compression!
The players go through so many balls because, after about 3 hours of play, they get fluffed up and lose pressure (the balls not the players). The balls get changed after 7 or 8 games so that they do not affect a player's control or accuracy.
All the spare balls are kept in a storage container at a precise 68° Fahrenheit to keep them in tip-top condition. The special refrigerated storage container was introduced at Wimbledon way back in 1937.
