Mobile Phone Moguls invest in self storage

Put your money in storage!

I just read that the family who started Motorola, the giant mobile phone company, have invested heavily in the self-storage industry in the States, in and near Chicago. The family investors ran Motorola for three generations and they think that storage is the next best thing.

The areas in which they are investing ($15.5m for two centres) have a lot of rented housing which they believe will be good for storage but they also believe that the high number of people who work and trade from their homes will give them a strong base of storage customers.

The trend is similar in the UK, where more and more people work at and/or from home and need the flexible storage space that self-storage companies can provide.
