Storage Space – The final frontier

December 22, 2010

Hidden away in a Smithsonian storage building in Washington are the remnants of the space race.

Over 300 spacesuits are kept in storage for the National Air and Space Museum. Laid out on 5 high on steel racks are the spacesuits worn by the astronauts of the US space-race. Scott Carpenters Mercury suit is here, with its special reflective coating, and next to it is Harrison H. Schmitt’s Apollo 17 outfit, still heavily coated in lunar dirt from the Moon. These are the suits that kept astronauts alive in the harsh environment of space. Even though they have been kept in secure storage at the museum over the last 50 years, they have still suffered from the ravages of time with the many rubber components getting brittle and deteriorating.

But spacesuits aren’t the final frontier when it comes to self-storage at Lok’nStore.
