Isn’t that a fabulous expression? All kinds of images come to mind. Maybe a life-size cardboard cut-out of someone in a business suit for example. Or how about a young, eager to please an entrepreneur who wants to surprise you with the latest news about his or her business?
In reality, it’s neither of those things. The term refers to those entrepreneurs who pop up with new businesses of various shapes and sizes. Today it can also mean someone who starts up a business quickly and easily by using a self-storage facility rather than using a traditional shop.
As it turns out self-storage facilities are becoming rather popular as an alternative to a traditional shop front. This is particularly the case with those businesses that don’t really need to interact directly with the public as a normal high street shop would do. It seems there is no end of pop-up entrepreneurs who are coming up with great business ideas they can test out from the confines of a storage unit.
So could we see a change in the way businesses are run? Certainly, the hefty overheads mean there are many negatives associated with trying to find a good outlet to run a business from. Even if you don’t need to be on the high street you could still find it difficult to manage your business from a smaller shop elsewhere. That’s always assuming you could find one of course.
Pop-up entrepreneurs know this. This is why they are flocking to self-storage units all over the country to make the most of the freedom they offer. If you’re considering starting a business, could this be the ideal solution for you as well? If you haven’t considered being a pop-up kind of person yourself, maybe now is the time to do so.
